Community Collections

Seventy two second grade students at West Elementary in Waukon, IA participated in community-based field trips to learn more about six local businesses. They used their iPads purchased from the grant to take pictures and document their discoveries learned on their visits. Students met in groups to create a digital scrapbook for their final projects.

Community Collections

Second grade students will study how goods and services in their local community are produced, the significance of different careers, and the process of solving problems in a community. Students will visit local businesses and governmental facilities. During the visits, they will digitally record their travels, documenting the goods and services provided, while interviewing community members on their roles and ways they solve problems. They will create community digital scrapbooks that will be displayed at the Chamber of Commerce and other local businesses and government facilities. Digital scrapbooks will also be posted on the local school district and community media sites.
